About the Item

A striking sculptural floor lamp, model "Jota", designed in the 1970s by Italian artist and designer Ennio Chiggio for Lumenform. Far ahead of its time in both concept and execution, this piece feels remarkably contemporary, thanks to its bold spatial gesture and its elegant, industrial materials. The lamp is built around a sweeping arc of chromed steel, tensioned into a lyrical curve and anchored to a minimalist black lacquered cross base. From this line emerges a cylindrical chrome reflector, mounted with a simple but brilliant mechanical principle: the light head can be moved vertically along the arc by rotating it backward, then repositioned forward at the desired height. Once released, gravity and the counterweight effect of the arched structure lock it into place, with no need for clamps or hardware. It’s a solution as elegant as it is efficient — highly architectural and technically avant-garde for its time. "Jota" functions not only as a lighting fixture, but as a sculptural object — poetic, dynamic, and spatially expressive. The chrome surface and open geometry interact with the environment, creating layered light and shadow compositions that shift with perspective. Its design language is rooted in kinetic art and Italian Radical Design, yet feels perfectly attuned to a contemporary interior or curated gallery space. An exceptionally rare collector’s piece from Lumenform, and a testament to Chiggio’s deep understanding of visual balance, movement, and form.
