Tito Agnoli 177a wall lamp Oluce Italy 1957

About the Item

Rare adjustable 177a wall lamp designed by Tito Agnoli and manufactured by Oluce in Italy in 1957. This lamp is made with a beautiful blended use of materials. The lamp has a brass wall plate that includes the light switch and cable output. On the wall plate are two rectangle brass elements which holds a teak wooden structure and provide the lamp to move left and right. The wooden stem is strengthened by a brass plate that sits on top and is attached by brass bolts. Under the wooden stem are brass round cylinders where a nickel plated stem goes through that, at the end, makes a bend and guides the cable. The nickel plated stem can be moved front- and backwards and the cable is then guided by a brass wheel on the back. The brass weight makes it easy to move the lamp into a different position and keeps the shade in balance. The shade is made from black painted aluminium and has a conical shape. A wooden detail is sitting on top of the shade. The lamps gives off a soft light when lit due to the perspex diffuser that hangs in the middle and is held by brass arms with two brass screws, made visible. This adjustable and pivoting lamp is a super elegant and a versatile piece. The shade is professionally refinished and the wiring is fully renewed. Literature: O-luce di Giuseppe Ostuni I Thomas Brauninger 2021, page 93 Tito Agnoli was born into an Italian family, in Lima, Peru, in 1931. He came to Italy after the war. Trained as a painter (having studied with Sironi), in 1949 he enrolled in the Faculty of Architecture, where he graduated in 1959 and was assistant to Gio Ponti and to Carlo De Darli. However, even in the early Fifties, he was already carrying out an intense professional activity in the field of design. He has created projects for, among others, Arflex, Cinova, Lema, Matteo Grassi, Molteni, Montina, Oluce, Pierantonio Bonacina, Poltrona Frau, Schiffini, Ycami. Several times recommended for the Compasso d’Oro (Golden Compass) Award, in 1986 he won the gold medal at the Neocon in Chicago. Some of his pieces are kept in the permanent collection of the MoMa in New York. He died in Milan on February 2012. This lamp is checked in our own atelier, cleaned and is also suitable for use in the USA.

By Arteluce, Gino Sarfatti
Located in Roosendaal, Noord Brabant
Rare pair of model 228 wall lamps designed by Gino Sarfatti and manufactured by Arteluce in Italy in 1957. This extraordinary green colour reminds us of the flourishing Alfa Romeo Giulietta from the same year, whizzing across the Italian countryside. It’s these colour memories where we fell in love with and cherish. It could be Sarfatti once saw a car passing by and was struck by its vivid colour. These lamps have a minimalistic but strong and iconic design. The slight frosted glass diffuser sits in a metal ring. The socket is held by a metal cylinder with metal screws that are visible. The ring is attached to the wall plate. In very good original condition and rewired. Kindly note that the listed price is for the pair of 2 lamps. Literature; M. Romanelli, S.
