Art Noveau Pair Of French Porcelain Lamps Color Ivory And Pure Gold

About the Item

We kindly suggest that you read the entire description, as with it we try to give you detailed technical and historical information to guarantee the authenticity of our objects. Exceptional pair of French table lamps; attached to a solid octagonal brass base for each lamp is a delicate porcelain creation depicting two graceful anemone flowers finished in pure gold; another special feature of these lamps is the original and unusual brass wire structure that departs from the lamp holder and serves to support the fabric lampshade; in addition, at the top of this structure there is a housing created for the position of a porcelain anemone flower that rises above the lampshade itself and is flooded, when the lamp is lit, with light with an aesthetically pleasing and refined effect; the two lampshades, made at a later date, are made of ivory-colored pongee fabric and gold thread trimmings; an enchanting and fabulous ensemble with an elegant and striking decorative effect achieved by following the Art Noveau style. The lamps were created between 1950 and 1955 in Paris, France, in an art porcelain workshop. Although not traditionally known as a center of porcelain production like Limoges and Sevres, Paris was home to several major porcelain companies in the 1950s. These companies often focused on more artistic and decorative porcelain items rather than mass production. In addition, during this period, several ateliers and craft workshops in Paris produced handmade porcelain pieces, unique and artistic pieces targeting a niche market of collectors and connoisseurs. These small businesses contributed to France's reputation as a center of high-quality handmade porcelain production in the 1950s. Pongee fabric is smooth, lightweight, solid and wear-resistant, stretchy and shiny, non-shrinking, soft to the touch, and resembles cotton. The meaning of the anemone comes from the symbolism of ancient Greece, where it is called "daughter of the wind." In mythology, it is a nymph that Zephyrus, the god of the winds, fell in love with and was turned into a flower by his jealous wife. The language of the anemone is that of hope and expectation, expressed by the flower's singular beauty but also of tenacity, constancy, and perseverance; in some countries, this beautiful flowering plant is considered a refuge plant for fairies. In these two lamps, quality, elegance, and fine workmanship take center stage. Here the designer's creativity and craftsmanship come together in an exclusive product, a unique and elegant modern furnishing accessory. The lamps are in good condition, and the base has some oxidation of the brass ( see photo). The electrical system is working but the wiring is European, the compatibility of the voltage in other countries must always be checked by an electrician before use. Measurements diameter cm.42, height cm.80. For all our shipments we use special packaging materials (custom-made wooden crates, styrofoam, etc.) for maximum protection and safety of the objects.
