About the Item

Stylish antique Bouillotte lamp. Square foot with a four candleholders in flora motive candleholders and adjustable fabric shade with fixation bolt in form of an arrow feather. The lampshade was most likely replaced when the lamp was electrified to increase light output. In past times, being able to adjust the light (the candle) was very convenient when reading books for example. Which is why this lamp was often used in libraries and on desk in personal cabinet. And in our time, these lamps are completely functional and irreplaceable, for people who want to add an aesthetic and historical zest to the interior of their home. Size app.: 59 cm (roughly 23.2 in) high, 46 cm (roughly 18.1 in) diameter. Very Good condition, electrified in 1st half of 20th century; minimal age and usage wear. The lampshade was most likely replaced when the lamp was electrified to increase light output. Please study good resolution images for cosmetic condition. In person actual item may appear darker or brighter than in our pictures, strictly depending on sufficient light in your environment. Weight of app. 3.5 kg is going to measure some 5 kg packed for shipment. Creation history: The Bouillotte lamp takes its name from a popular French card game called “Bouillotte” that emerged in the eighteenth century and sustained a following well into the next century. Often made of brass, is a table lamp that typically consists of two to four candle brackets extending from a rounded base. These brackets extend from the lamp’s core to in essence form a candelabra. Capping these candelabra-like mounts is the brass Bouillotte lamp’s shade, which was often made from lacquered metal, known as tôle. Perhaps the most brilliant aspect of the traditional Bouillotte lamp’s design is the adjustable slide on which the lampshade is mounted. In past centuries with the turn of a key, the tôle shade of a Bouillotte lamp can be easily raised to insert new candles, or lowered to better focus the light of the flickering flames of a dwindling candle.
