About the Item
A beautiful and high quality French 19th century Louis XVI st. Wedgwood Porcelain and Ormolu Athénienne candlestick lamp. This very unique lamp is raised on a mottled edged hexagonal white Carrara marble pedestal with a fine Ormolu bottom plate. Above the marble base is a beautiful Ormolu socle with a beaded band around the base and acanthus leaves hanging amidst the body. Atop the socle shaped base is an urn with a detailed foliate spray which introduced the four tapering support legs decorated with foliate designs and connected by a circular mottled edged reserve. The four legs house a finely detailed tapered central fut which contains reeded designs and a spiraling berried laurel vine leading upward. The wonderfully decorated frame above the legs consists of ram's heads above each leg with swaging garments leading to the attention grabbing oval Wedgwood plaques. These unique Wedgwood plaques are tastefully decorated with a bowed and flowing ribbon above with a berried foliate bottom finial. Above the ram's heads is a cup shaped top finial with a palmette designed base and fine acanthus leaves extending upwards on the body. The rim of the top is decorated with reeded designs and a mottled edge. All original gilt throughout.
