"Magnolia and Bluebirds", Unique, Lovely Art Deco Lamp by Rookwood, 1940s
About the Item
Beautifully glazed in tones of blue, gray, white and tan, this unique lamp base by the famed Rookwood company in Cincinnati features a series of magnolia branches laden with flowers, accompanied by several blue birds. The glaze has a misty, soft quality, accented by a lovely craquelure effect, and the entire scene is magical. Rookwood was the largest and most successful art pottery in America for several decades, producing artistic wares from the late 19th century into the 1950s. Best known for its Arts and Crafts pieces in the early 20th century, the company also produced fine Art Deco ware into the 1940s. (Dimensions include the light socket; the porcelain lamp base itself is 15.5 inches high).
