This impressive pair of 19th-century English lamps is fashioned from heavy cast iron, repurposed from original hitching posts once used for securing horses in front of estates and townhouses. Each piece retains the distinctive square midsection fitted with an iron ring — a functional feature in its original context and now a striking decorative detail. Rising from octagonal plinth bases, the columns display an elegant spiral twist enriched with bold acanthus leaf carvings at the lower section, adding a sculptural flourish to the robust form. The upper portion transitions to a circular capital with incised foliate motifs, supporting the lamp fittings and faux candle sleeves. Their deep, naturally aged patina highlights the crispness of the casting and underscores their authentic 19th-century craftsmanship.
