About the Item
These lamps dates from the period Sognot was concerned with more humble and affordable materials in response to material shortages after the World War II. It is hand crafted from six bamboo sticks encasing a cylindrical cotton canvas and wicker shade, it gives a soft warm light. Its scale sits it between a floor lamp and large table lamp. Good original condition with minimal wear of use.
French designer Louis Sognot (1892-1970). A cabinetmaker, influenced by Art Deco and Cubism, Sognot became a professor of decoration at the acclaimed l’EcoleBoulein the 1920s. In 1932, he would collaborate with Charlotte Alix on a chair of moulded lakarmé, an early precursor to the moulded Monobloc chair, oft touted as the first wholly plastic chair designed in 1946.
