About the Item
A beautiful and unique pair of French 19th century Louis XVI st. ormolu, patinated bronze and Rouge Griotte marble lamps. Each lamp is raised by a striking octagonal Rouge Griotte marble base with a fine mottled border and foliate socle shaped pedestal support. The remarkably shaped body displays fine reeded and Vitruvian scrolled designs with charming intricately detailed cherubs seemingly hiding and lying behind a wonderfully executed draped garland with richly chased cherubs playing above with one blindfolded playing a MarCo Polo like game on one side and throwing rocks on the other. Scrolled handles lead up each side to impressive patinated bronze ram heads centering the elegantly curved neck with lovely wraparound vines below a reeded border.
