Pair of French 19th Century Louis XVI St. Ormolu and Marble Lamps
About the Item
A stunning and very high quality pair of French 19th century Louis XVI st. ormolu and Rouge Griotte marble lamps, attributed to Barbedienne and after a model by John Flaxman. Each lamp is raised by an impressive circular Rouge Griotte marble base with elegant ball feet, a bottom ormolu fillet and a fine mottled border. The socle pedestals display beautiful mottled and fluted designs with wrap around tied berried laurel bands below fine foliate designs. The ormolu bodies display charming and extremely decorative scenes of richly chased cherubs playing below fine ormolu berried laurel bands with detailed rams heads at each side. Above are exceptionally executed woven baskets with beautiful fruits in a striking satin and burnished finish.
