Pair Of French 19th Century Louis XVI St. Bronze, Marble, And Ormolu Lamps
About the Item
A very unique and finely detailed pair of French 19th century Louis XVI st. Rouge Griotte marble, patinated Bronze and Ormolu lamps in the manner of Clodion and attributed to Barbedienne. Each stunning urn mounted into a lamp is raised by two acanthus leaf decorated feet and two topie shaped feet with foliate designs. Above is a uniquely shaped Rouge Griotte socle with mottled edges and a circular Ormolu band with over lapping ribbons. The patinated Bronze body of each lamp is tastefully decorated with cherubs wearing and playing with berried laurel vines all below two horned powerful masks with swaging floral garlands. The top cap above the patinated Bronze body is decorated with laurel, lattice, and dentil patterns.
