Rare Dan Dailey “Molar” Table Lamp, 1970’s

About the Item

A rare table lamp by the contemporary glass artist and lamp designer Dan Dailey (b.1947) made from chromed steel, clear and sandblasted glass and made to resemble a human molar tooth. Dan Dailey is considered today as “one of the most unique voices within the field of contemporary glass.”. He had studied glass at the Venini Factory in Murano, Italy and later worked with renowned glass-making companies such as Cristallerie Daum and Steuben Glass Works among others. His work is in the permanent collections of over 50 museums including the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; the Metropolitain Museum of Art, the Corning Museum of Glass and the Musée des Arts Décoratifs, Louvre, Paris. Currently, he is Professor Emeritus at Massachusetts College of Art in Boston. Working with glass and metal with an emphasis on lighting, he creates whimsical and humorous lamps based on the human form. He calls it “illuminated sculpture”. For example, the molar lamp represents a human molar tooth with its roots. This lamp was part of the collection of prominent attorney and crafts collector Robert L. Pfannebecker from Philadelphia, PA. By the 1980’s, he had built one of the largest and most reputable collections of contemporary craft in the United States. In 2009, he was elected an Honorary Fellow of the American Craft Council for his contribution and support of American craft. DIMENSIONS: Width: 7 in. (17.8 cm.) Depth: 6.25 in. (15.9 cm.)
