About the Item

A fantastic pair of matching vintage ceramic lamps, handmade by Thomas Anagrius for Kvidinge Keramik, Sweden. These lamps are simple in the design, with intricate patterns imbedded and all is handmade. The patterns are simple, yet it is the colors that makes these lamps very special, the large has a warm umbra or honey brown base with stripes of pale moss green to a warm honey tone. The smaller has the same pattern but another paler umbra color base. These lamps are elegant and sophisticated and will make a statement in any interior setting. The price includes free shipping. The larger is 33cm (12.99") high with the lamp fitting and 11.5cm (4.52") in diameter and it is in a very good condition. The smaller is 25cm (9.84" high and 10cm (3.93") in diameter and in a very good condition. NOTE that this lamp is wired for Swedish standard (and for most parts of EU) and that the lamp shades are not included. Alingsås ceramic- one of Scandinavia’s leading companies when it comes to innovative and stylish mid-century modern art and design pottery. When the company hired Mr. Anagrius and Mrs. Winblad they developed a unique style and design. The pottery became simple, sophisticated, stylish and with a very recognizable design, recognizable for good innovative mid-century modern art pottery design. The history of art pottery from Alingsås. Alingsås Keramik was started in 1947 by Halvard Oldberg and Hilding Canemark. In the beginning, enamel work was a specialty, but soon turned to pieces of design ceramics, stoneware and earthenware. They succeeded so well that for a few years they exported large quantities of their goods to the United States. The success can be attributed to some leading designers, artists and decorators included Tomas Anagrius. He had then worked with famous designer Stig Lindberg at Gustavsberg keramik. Anagrius is represented at the Swedish National Museum for Art and Design. Another designer asset was Ulla Winblad designed pottery from 1958-1967, before moving to the USA. Ulla's artistry is represented at numerous museums in the Nordic countries and North America. Mid-century modern pottery Design pottery from Alingsås ceramic, from the 1960s and 70s is timeless and one can argue that it can be considered art objects. It is gaining in reputation within the retro and vintage market, as well as admirers of Scandinavian design and appreciated in various styles of modern interior design. The vases and pottery are always handmade with intricate individual patterns and glazing.
