Brushed Aluminum rings with Artisan colored glass inset pieces and a stainless steel shade
Nanny Still (1926-2009) was a well-known Female Finnish glass designer. She studied at Finland's Central School of Arts and Crafts and graduated in 1950. She worked as a glass designer for Riihimäki Glassworks, Finland’s largest glassworks at the time, for almost 30 years, creating a variety of stylish and decorative glass objects and lamps that are collectors items.
She was one of Finland's most colourful designers
For Raak Lighting Company she designed various models of lamps and was one of their top designers in the late 1960s and early 1970s

The Raak Design Group of Amsterdam was found in the 1950s and was very active and successful in the 1970s.

RAAK
In Dutch, “raak” means “to hit” or “to hit the nail on the head.” Lighting company RAAK certainly accomplished that with its unique mid-century modern designs of futuristic, Space Age metal lamps, pendants and other lighting creations.
RAAK was founded in 1954 by Carel O. Lockhorn (1923–2004), a former employee of the Philips Lighting company in Eindhoven, the Netherlands. Under the tagline “Illuminated Architecture,” RAAK focused on producing elegant, sophisticated and modern lighting that would blend seamlessly with high-concept interiors.
During the 1960s, one of RAAK’s most well-known designs came from its in-house designer, Frank Ligtelijn, who created the Globe 2000 series of glass and chrome floor lamps, pendants and wall lights. Another key collaboration was with Dutch artist and glassmaker Willem van Oyen, who produced the iconic Chartres wall lights in 1964. Van Oyen’s Brutalist design evoked melted paintings and was inspired by the stained glass windows in the Chartres Cathedral in France.
In the 1970s, RAAK worked with several influential international artists, such as Italian designers Sergio Asti, Giotto Stoppino and Cesare Casati and Emanuele Ponzio, and Finnish designers Maija Liisa Komulainen (best known for her metallic, cylindrical Fuga lamp) and Tapio Wirkkala, creator of the handblown crystal Suomi pendant lamps.
Through the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s, RAAK enjoyed enormous success throughout Europe and worldwide for its modern lamps and decorative lighting. In 1974, Lockhorn sold RAAK to the furniture company ITT but remained its director until 1977. In 1980, RAAK merged with BIS Lighting and was renamed BISRAAK. Then, in 1999, the company entered into another merger, this time with Artilite B.V. and Indoor B.V., and became the Center for Light Architecture. It declared bankruptcy in 2011.
RAAK lighting continues to be highly coveted today among interior designers and avid vintage furniture collectors.

Impressive handcrafted, sculptural relief table lamp by French artist and sculptor 'PH Jean'. The four beautiful relief panels, clearly influenced by the 'op art' movement of the period, are all composed from built up layers of white Lucite, stainless steel and brass, there are two different relief pattern designs set front and back and left and right ie matching relief patterns are set on opposing faces to each other , one pair of relief panels have a white Lucite background one of which bears the engraved artists' signature 'PH Jean' and the other two relief panels are set on a stainless steel background. Please refer to detail photos. The small inset base is composed from white Lucite.
The lamp has been rewired and still retains the original linen shade but this needs replacing as it is torn and stained and has only been kept as a template from which to make a matching new shade.
A classic piece of chic refined French design the kind for design often seen in a Philippe Grange, David Hicks or Francois Catroux interior, would look great alongside other classic French works of the same perios such as Maria Pergay, Philippe Hiquily, Michel Boyer, Guy De Rougemont, Francois Morrelet etc
Philippe Jean twice won the "lampe d'or of creation' in France , the gold prize for lighting design and also a silver medal at the 'Salon des artistes Decoratifs' in Paris during this period. Please see image 4 for a copy of an article which confirms these prizes.
PH Jean also designed a highly collectable illuminated coffee table for the highly prestigious and renowned Galerie Eric and Xiane Germain, Paris, 1970.
