Zaccagnini Lamp in White with Gold Leaf, Italy, 1950s

About the Item

A large Hollywood Regency lamp with stylised decoration, standing 32 inches tall to the top of the shade. In keeping with the 1940s-1950s decorative style which saw large lamps move into the domestic market, this lamp is influenced by the scale and themes of Hollywood blockbuster set design. These make fabulous lamps for cocktail lounges or theatres of public entertainment such as bars, restaurants or cafes. They are pure expressions of maximalism and mid-20th century Hollywood glamour. Today they evoke sense of Hollywood golden era nostalgia. This lamp displays the naive theatricality of the period, referencing Asian motifs. It conveys an impression of Asian art, rather than being a true representation. It sits well with another lamp in this theatrical style, also produced by Zaccagnini. It is also listed in our storefront. These lamps were made in Italy for the US, British and Australian markets. They were (and are still) considered a luxury item. Note: the shade of this lamp is not included in sale. Australian Bayonet cap bulb fixture and Australian plug. Tested and tagged safe to Australian/NZ Standards. A NOTE ON WIRING: This item is rewired to Australian/NZ Standard and has been tested and tagged safe for a nominal 230v system (supply of anywhere from 210-240v). Australian and New Zealand buyers must consult a registered electrician for hard wired installation or safety tag will be void. Plug and play if this item is a lamp. This light is compatible with European 220v electrical systems but wire colours may differ and correct bulbs may or may not be readily available. Please check with your bulb supplier before purchase - many are available online. Consult your electrician for hard wired installation or to change bulb sockets (or for plug change if this item is a lamp). In the US and anywhere a 110v system is in place - this light may or may not require rewiring to meet your local safety standards and correct bulbs may or may not be readily available. Please use the information provided to seek advice on compatibility from your locally registered electrician before purchase. They will be able to advise on the potential need for rewiring, bulb socket changes, or if this item is a lamp, for plug change. Before purchase, please check with your bulb supplier - many are available online. Use of LED bulbs is recommended (to prevent overheating and reduce power usage).

Monumental Signed Shunichi Inoue White and Rose Ash Glazed Vase 1978
By Shunichi Inoue
Located in Melbourne, AU
An exceptional example of the work of master Japanese potter, Shunichi Inoue. This vessel dates from his Australian residency and is signed and dated 1978. There is potency in this very simple form - it has a powerful Cynthian presence, stillness, composure, that is, it is reminiscent of the calm abiding presence of the moon. Shunichi Inoue studied ceramics at Kyoto City University of Arts 1969-75. He travelled to Australia to lecturer in ceramics at the Bendigo College of Advanced Education in Victoria, Australia where he stayed for three years. He returned to Australia in late 1984 as a visiting professor and again in 1993, when he made an extended stay. He was an active exhibitor and had an important influence on Australian pottery...
