Monumental Gilt & Ebonized Convex Mirror with Eagle
About the Item
Monumental highly decorative round convex mirror with a carved eagle crest, ebonized and reeded trim, the surround with relief design and terminating with a large shell motif. The eagle standing on a sphere atop a pedestal and flanked by large and impressive scrolling acanthus leaves at the shoulders. The mirror hand-molded hand-finished wood composite with a hand-applied antique gold leaf finish and masonite backing.
The mirror, after an early 19th century girandole mirror from the collection of the renowned architect Stanford White (1853-1906), the original of which hung prominently in his dining room.
Dimensions: 31 1/2" W, 46 1/2" H and 6" D; 19 1/2" mirror glass
