About the Item
A very fine and unusual early 19th Century giltwood compartmental mirror of fabulous quality and low and wide proportions. The stunningly hand carved, moulded and fluted giltwood frame is surmounted with an overhanging inverse breakfront pediment above a deep panelled frieze with centred plaque with gorgeous scallop shell motif detail flanked with fluted detail. The three compartmental mirror glass plates below are set within lovely reeded borders flanked with a pair of elegantly simple, ring turned pilaster columns with spiral twist detail, surmounted with beautifully detailed lion head masques, supported on shaped platform base, terminating on ebonised ball foot.
