A large baroque French mirror with a richly carved frame of gilded wood. The mirror is housed in a thin and elegant frame that is meticulously decorated with leaf and flower motifs. This exceptional piece has some wear marks due to age and has some small painting restorations.
Mirrors were hung on the mantelpiece or between the windows throughout the 18th century and were therefore an integral part of the interior. Mirrors of any size were very expensive and were therefore real showpieces with which one could show one's wealth.
