18th Century French Rococo Carved Giltwood Mirror
About the Item
Regal 18th Century French Rococo Painted Giltwood Wall Mirror. Mirror is styled in the Rococo tradition, characterized by its ornate, asymmetrical decoration and naturalistic motifs. Mirror top features a large central cartouche that often symbolized nobility or wealth. The upper portion includes garlands of flowers and foliage swags draped from the sides. The sides and bottom are elaborately adorned with scrolling acanthus leaves, shells, and floral clusters. The mirror, at 61.5 inches, is tall and vertically oriented, likely intended as a floor, hall or pier mirror, placed between windows, or above a console table in a grand hallway. Wonderful patina!
