About the Item

This antique French vanity mirror, crafted circa 1880, reflects the refined elegance of the Louis Philippe style with decorative touches influenced by the Napoleon III period. The shapely frame is veneered in warm walnut and features intricate marquetry in alternating ribbons of light and dark wood, bordered by a delicate gilt beaded trim that highlights the mirror’s undulating form. Designed to stand freely, the mirror is supported by a hinged easel-style back leg that tucks into a central channel and secures with a turned wood peg. The reverse side is finished with a smooth, polished surface and showcases 19th-century joinery. The original mirror plate displays light silvering and patina consistent with age, adding charm and antique authenticity. Measuring 16.5 inches wide by 21.5 inches high and 6.5 inches deep when open, this freestanding mirror is both decorative and functional, ideal for use on a vanity, desk, or dressing table. A fine example of period craftsmanship and French decorative arts.
