About the Item

A rare antique tri-fold / tripart beveled mirror by Peter Wiederer & Brothers in New York dates back to 1887. Created in faux (wood) bamboo, this mirror can be hung on the wall with it’s original chain or sit on a table. Two of the sides are decorated with detailed oriental scenes of birds in a garden printed on heavy stock paper. Patented in 1887 by New York inventor Peter Wiederer, this piece was decorated in the Aesthetic Japonism style and was sold to the chic and wealthy crowd allowing them to travel in style. An example of this piece is on permanent display at Brooklyn Museum. It is in very good condition consistent with age and use, mirror glasses are intact, as are the metal details such as the chain for hanging and the feet (that are shaped as little boots).
