About the Item

Concetto Pozzati (1935-2017) was one of the most important painters of Italian Surrealism and Pop Art of the 1960. His experimental works encompassed plastic, neon, hard leather, mirrors, wood and metal and even natural elements. His themes varied from memories, to freedom, nature, and pondering the heritage of the past and contemporary innovations. In his view,” it’s the works of art that look at you and have eyes everywhere, even on the back of their heads. Their eyes are always wide open”. This work of art of the late 1960 (1968) is a mixed technique on canvas, with hand cut mirrors in the shape of tomatoes. The orthogonal sides of the square are in blue dark blue hues and the mirrors are on a white background. On the back, a stamp of Galleria Ferrari of Verona (bearing the purchasing Number 0024/69 shows the provenance of the painting. Size is: H 120 x W 145 (3'11"1/4 x 4'9"3/32). The mirrors are in perfect conditions. The white background shows a bit its age, but with a regular cleaning it will look new. This sculptural painting, a real wall-mounted sculpture, is ideal to pep-up any lounge, office, bedroom, corri door in any contemporary house, reflecting and enhancing any light in the home. Pozzati's work has been displayed in the most renowned Italian and international art galleries: Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio, Bologna Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio, Padova Fondazione COMIT, Milano Fondazione Martani, Ponte Ronca, Bologna Galleria Civica d'Arte Moderna, Termoli Galleria Civica d'Arte Moderna, Torino Galleria Civiche Raccolte d'Arte , Milano Galleria Comunale d'Arte Contemporanea, Roma Galleria Comunale d'Arte Moderna, Bologna Galleria d'Arte Moderna e Contemporanea, Ferrara Galleria d'Arte Moderna e Contemporanea, Palazzo Forti, Verona Galleria nazionale d'Arte Moderna , Roma Galleria Nazionale La Pilotta, Pinacoteca di Parma Casa del Mantegna, Mantova Museo Cracovia Museo d'Arte Sacra, Fondazione Stauros, Teramo Museo di Assisi Museo di Belgrado Museo di Bolzano Museo di Lubiana Museo di Tokio Museo di Udine Museo Joaneum Grass Museo Modena Museo Pecci, Prato Museo S. 1967 Salocchi White Mirrored Vanity with Light and Tilting Top Sormani, Italy
By Claudio Salocchi, Sormani
Located in Arosio, IT
This is an original piece of 1967, that was meant to be put in the middle of a room, thus its name "centro". It is a white cube with a tilt-top that turns into a mirror with a built-in light on two sides. Size is cm 59 H x 81 x 81 (ft: H 1' 11" 15/64 x 2' 7" 57/64 x 2' 7" 57/64). Even the two light bulbs are still the original ones, perfectly functioning. A transformer must be applied for US plugging. All drawers (4 rotating on the back and two on the front) work perfectly. The finish is slightly damaged on the lower back drawers (shows some not very noticeable swelling) and one of the front drawers has a slightly different hue (due to light and time). All the hardware and the tilting hardware in chrome-stained brass are perfect. Amina was a disruptive series of extremely contemporary containers for the home, envisaged by Claudio Salocchi for Sormani in the mid-1960s. It was the first series of totally white, squared furniture for the living- dining- and bedroom of international level. Almost a scandal for an era still tied to traditional wooden finishes and shapes. From scandal to success, this chest of drawers or coiffeuse was displayed with the rest of the collection of beds, tables, modular shelving units, in several movies of the early Seventies such as "L'Invasion" of Yves Allergret, with Michel Piccoli and Lisa Gastoni. The piece comes with a certificate of provenance on original Sormani letterhead. Please check also LU3681116076542 to have a matching ensemble
