About the Item

These gorgeous little gems are from the 1820-1840s era and Italian, possibly Florence. The mirros are gracefully carved of beech wood and covered in a genuine 23 kt water gilt finish over Italian red bole clay ground. They do have signs of age such as wear to the finish and an old age crack here or there but they are stable. Measures 6 inches deep because of the crest that just out at the top x 20 wide x 38 tall. The mirrors are Italian and date to the 1820s-1840s era.

Italian architects of the late Baroque/early Rococo were wooed to Catholic (Southern) Germany, Bohemia and Austria by local princes, bishops and prince-bishops. Inspired by their example, regional families of Central European builders went further, creating churches and palaces that took the local German Baroque style to the greatest heights of Rococo elaboration and sensation. An exotic but in some ways more formal type of Rococo appeared in France where Louis XIV's succession brought a change in the court artists and general artistic fashion. By the end of the king's long reign, rich Baroque designs were giving way to lighter elements with more curves and natural patterns.
