French 18th Century Louis XVI Gilt & Painted Trumeau
About the Item
A unique French trumeau mirror of the Louis XVI period, dating to the 18th century, with fantastic gilt wood carvings applied to the (patinated) painted wood frame. Mounted above the mirror plate is a scrolling emblem that terminates as Neoclassical foliate projections on the pediment and to the left and right upper corners, softening the rectangular geometry. The original mirror plate is dusted with a foxing and crystals, mostly concentrated along the bottom edge. The glass is protected by a low, beaded trim.
