Important and Rare Italian Mirror with Micromosaic 19th Century

About the Item

IMPORTANT AND RARE ITALIAN MIRROR WITH MICROMOSAIC 19th Century Blown glass, Venetian, late 19th century. Attributed to 'Salviati & C'. Decoration with flowers, oval plaque with a view of Venice. Faults and defects. Dim: 128 x 83 cm good condition In 1859 at the headquarters in Dorsoduro, Venice at number 731, the company "Salviati Dott. Antonio fu Bartolomeo" was founded. Thus began the entrepreneurial journey of the Vicenza lawyer Antonio Salviati who, in love with the precious mosaics of the basilica of S. Marco and fascinated by the Murano glass art, decided to start the production of mosaics and Murano glass objects. An ambitious and far-sighted goal pushed him along this path: to revive the fortunes of Murano glass art which had been in decline for decades. A challenge that finds maximum support from two fundamental figures in the history of Murano glass: the mayor of the island, Antonio Colleoni and the Abbot Vincenzo Zanetti, founder of the glass museum and of the first drawing school for glassmakers.
