Mid-19th Century Napoleon III Period French Gilt Wood Mantel Mirror with Mask

About the Item

This mid-nineteenth century French Napoleon III period giltwood mirror features its original mercury glass and a central cartouche with a female mask flanked by scrolling leaves at the crown. The pillow frame is detailed with an inset border of fine beading. Its original iron oxide under-body gives it a rich glow, and the burnished lines of the gold leaves laid across the form create a beautiful pattern of their own. c. 1860.
