Pair of French Louis XV Carved Giltwood and Paint-Decorated Beveled Oval Mirrors
About the Item
Decorate a master bathroom with this matching pair of wall mirrors. Each oval frame is characterized by elaborate gilded scroll work, including a pierced rocaille cartouche at the pediment, foliate decor at the bottom, all typical of the Rococo style prominent during the reign of Louis XV (1715–1774). The hand painted polychrome floral details on the frame add a soft, colorful contrast to the gold leaf, enhancing its decorative charm. The curves of the frame suggest a sense of movement and elegance, hallmarks of this period, meant to evoke nature and opulence. The large vintage mirrors with beveled glass are in excellent condition, and adorn a rich patinated gilt finish, associated with colorful hand painted flowers. Place these elegant mirrors in an entry on either side of a front door, or on both sides of a mantel flanked with a pair of chests or consoles.
