About the Item

Midcentury Pierre Chapo LO6A Bed, Daybed in Elm Wood, France, 1960s. This bed or daybed model L06A was made from solid elm and designed by Pierre Chapo in the 1960s. The bed's solid elm structure has a beautiful color typical of the designer's creations. The assembly work is particular and singular, bringing a refined touch to the minimalist design. The bed is easy to assemble and disassemble. This is an early edition created according to the original craft methodology of Pierre Chapo and features his famous handcrafted joints. Over time, the elm has patinated, adding depth, character, and authenticity to the piece. The current condition of the bed is good, with no noticeable hitch. The dimensions are L 202.5 x D 86 x H 58 cm, and the bed base is L 190 x D 80 x H 27 cm. Pierre Chapo was born into a family of craftsmen, trained as an architect in Paris, and combined his interest in contemporary design with his love for traditional craftsmanship. His furniture was measured using the golden ratio, and elmwood was his preferred material. He and his partner Nicole set up Société Chapo in 1957, a design workshop and gallery where they exhibited their creations and others. Chapo continued designing and working despite falling ill until his death in 1987.
