About the Item

Extremely rare Italian Rococo “Lacca Comodino”, 17th-18th century, Venice Chamber pot lift-top bedside commode with polychrome painted decoration. This beautiful furniture has a lift up top, revealing an interior covered in red satin in period pattern. The bottom shows the circular cut-out that used to receive a chamber pot. The well proportioned body stands on carved cabriole legs, connected by an undulating X-shaped stretcher. Doors and top have the original antique hardware. The entire commode is polychrome paint decorated on a green ground. Elaborate garlands of flowers, some suspended by tied ribbons, adorn the front and sides of this Comodino. Cartouches enclosing monkeys, exotic birds and cherubs. The commode is authentic in all parts. Polychrome paintings are refreshed in parts. Cabriole legs with carved feet are typical of commodes from the 17th century that decorated the grand palaces of Venice.
