Forged from laminated steel and featuring a slender, single-edged blade, the knife was worn by samurai as a companion sword to the longer katana and the wakizashi. It is designed as a stabbing weapon. It's refined yet functional design reflects the tantō's status as an elegant armament of the samurai warrior. The sword blade exhibits signs of oxidization and wear that point to the passing of time, as shown in the pictures.
