The elongated ovoid vase was created by dipping the hot bronze in oil after firing, then smoking it with burning rice straw. This distinctive process produces colored patinas on the bronze surface, often resembling an organic marble effect. The murashido technique results in a unique visual depth and dimension to the bronze, as evidenced by this fine example. With its splashed oil patinas and smoked finish, this vase displays the hallmarks of the intricate japanese murashido metalworking tradition.
