About the Item
If a few more years had been allowed to pass, a rich heritage of art treasures that bear testimony to the impassioned , inexhaustible genius of C.R. Mackintosh would have been irremediably lost. His great talent was devoted to the production of what was perhaps among the most important architecture of the years bridging the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.
Although recognition for having warned of this danger goes to Howarth, to whose exemplary biographical profile of the Scottish architect any future study of the subject must refer, it is Professor A. McLaren Yung and his colleagues at the Department of Fine Art of Glasgow University, who deserve praise for having classified and catalogued the greater part of the most representative objects and examples produced by this artist, in particular drawings of interiors, furniture and beautiful chairs.
The survey presented here is the first attempt of its kind to present a record of that glowing period (1890-1910) which in Glasgow anticipated certain aspects of the Modern Movement in architecture so remarkably. For this survey we studied in detail original drawings and actual objects, and in an attempt to stave off the ravages of time reproduced most carefully, using a wealth of distinctive characteristics revealed by close analysis and exact measurement, as much as possible of the vast Mackintosh production. In doing this, we tried to recover his most individual synthesis and his most sensitive connotations. 106 pages. 62.5 grams.

Furniture by Architects Foreword by Stephen Crafti (Book)
Located in North Yorkshire, GB
'Furniture by Architects' reveals how the same fundamental principles used in building design can be applied on a much smaller scale, resulting in pieces of furniture that embrace function, beauty and context to become objects of art. For centuries, architects have turned their hand to custom furniture in a practice that has resulted in a number of iconic designs, including the timeless Eames Lounge and Ottoman and the ubiquitous Barcelona chair created by Mies van der Rohe for his acclaimed Barcelona Pavilion. 'Furniture by Architects' beautifully illustrates bespoke design by some of the world s leading architects, who are increasingly designing furniture as clients seek interiors customised to specific needs. Foster + Partners' 520 Armchair for Walter Knoll has the texture and comfort found in a traditional leather armchair, while the Liquid Glacial Dining & Coffee Table by Zaha Hadid Design...
