Ephemeral Decorations in Paris French Book by André Granet Original 1948 Edition

About the Item

Décors éphémères: Les Expositions Jeux d'Eau et de Lumière, (Ephemeral decorations: water and light games exhibitions,) French book by André Granet, Original edition 1948, Preface by Prince Louis Victor de Broglie. The Grand Palais near the Champs-Élysées in Paris has rooms with incredibly ornate interiors erected between 1909 and 1948 to handle the automotive and other trade shows. The splendor of these temporary sets was a direct expression of a gloriously progressive Paris married with the work of the French architect André Granet (1881–1974). In 1948, Granet’s work was documented in a large format book. This book has long been out of print. Décors Éphémères contains photographs of Granet’s installations and lighting designs, as well as his illuminations for the Eiffel Tower and the banks of the Seine. It is completed by outlines and sketches of his daring designs. This book has 128 pages written in French, 80 rotogravure pictures by Chevojon and Borremans, a double color plate featuring the Eiffel Tower, and a large number of designs (plans, architectural projects) for illustrations. Reproductions of photographs and some plans of Paris expositions and architectural monuments, including the Eiffel Tower, the Exposition des Arts et des Techniques de Paris (1937), the Exposition Coloniale de 1931, many expositions in the Grand Palais on the Champs Elysées, and preparations for the visit to Paris of King George and Queen Elizabeth in 1938. This is a beautiful coffee table art book. Features: Title: Decors Ephemeres: Les Expositions Jeux d'Eau et de Lumiere Author: André Granet Soft binding book. Secret and Unusual Paris, French Book by Rodolphe Trouilleux, 2003
By Modern History

Paris Secret et Insolite (Secret and Unusual Paris), French book by Rodolphe Trouilleux. Under the cobblestones, surprises: forgotten dead-ends, a cloister converted into workshops, a real-fake medieval house, the slabs of the guillotine, a 17th-century metro, a mineral water fountain, a tiny house, a miraculous Vespasian, a chapel in spare parts, Russian isbas, hidden gardens, revolutionary inscriptions, a forgotten cannonball, a working-class town in the upscale neighborhoods, a fashionable ox, abandoned convents, a washhouse facade, a bastion on the fortifications, an itinerant chapel, a pierced castle, sleeping villas, a lemon tree in a telephone booth, that's Paris! The French capital has not finished revealing its mysteries: a Palladian villa, a 15th-century tower, an acclimatization square, rats nibbling on a facade, an old Protestant cemetery, a medieval sign...
