Presented is a later 1860 printing of Nathaniel Dwight’s Lives of the Signers of the Declaration of Independence. The book was first published in 1830, under a slightly different title, Sketches of the Lives of the Signers of the Declaration of independence. The book offers a series of biographical sketches about the signers of the Declaration of Independence, presenting a thorough and precise history of the fifty-six men behind one of America's key foundational documents. It is presented here rebound in ¼ leather and cloth boards, with raised bands, gilt titles, and gilt tooling to the spine, and a matching archival brown cloth slipcase. Each biography in this book is filled with references and interesting historical facts that narrate the lives of each signer in detail. The volume is divided in thirteen parts, grouping the signers under each one of the founding states. As explained in the introduction, the aim of this book was to be used in schools, to educate the youth of America of the “persons who risked their lives in defence of their country's rights, liberties, and privileges, and under whose counsels its independence was achieved, and established.” CONDITION: Very good condition. Rebound in ¼ leather and cloth boards, with gilt titles, tooling, and raised bands to the spine. Interior pages are mostly healthy, save moderate toning and older water stains to the first few pages. Ex-library, with "Library of Birmingham-Southern College" stamped on several pages and call numbers in blue and red pencil. With a new archival matching slipcase.
