DESCRIPTION: FIRST EDITION SIGNED BY E. H. SHEPHARD. 1 vol, 7-1/2" x 5-1/4", signed by the illustrator E. H. Shepard on the title page, Bound in the publisher's original gilt stamped red cloth, pictorial pastedowns and endpapers, top edge gilt, with the original dust jacket.
CONDITION: Internally clean and bright, no previous ownership marking, inscriptions, or bookplate, inner and outer hinges fine, head and foot of spine fine, spine sunned, otherwise VERY GOOD, dust jacket quite worn and chipped but in an unknown hand written on the front inside flap "This is a 1st edition ask Uncle Kip to autograph it."
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: E.H. Shepard use to refer to himself as "Kip" - his nickname and a shortened version of "Giddy-Kipper". At St. Paul's School, he was fond of jokes and tricks and in the schoolboy slang of that day, was known as “a giddy kipper.” The nickname “Kipper” clung to him all his life.
