2 volumes, 8vo, 7 3/4 x 5 1/4 in. (195 x 133 mm); pp xvi + 748; vol. 2 vii + 786; frontispiece engraving (vol. 1) and photo (vol. 2). Bound in 3/4 red morocco over light red cloth, gilt fillets on boards, 5 raised bands, with gilt decoration and titles on spine; pink endpapers, t.e.g. Some offset on title pages and occasional foxing but overall a solid and clean copy.
A collection of Robert Browning's poetical works, complete in two volumes with portraits, simply and elegantly bound. Robert Browning (1812 - 1889) was a foremost Victorian poet and playwright, known for his dramatic monologues, his use of irony, dark humor, and social commentary, historical settings and challenging vocabulary and syntax. While he was married (1845-1951) to his fellow famed poet Elizabeth Barrett Browning (1806 -1861) they lived in Italy.
