About the Item

Schneider, French and English Book by Edith Mannoni, 1992. This book traces the factory's history and presents a hundred reproductions of original plates and sketches from the 1920s. Covering the Art Nouveau and Art Deco periods, this book relates the relations between Charles Schneider and Emile Gallé or Daum in Nancy. Also shown are the main signatures and marks for the pieces' identification. Charles Schneider, 1881-1953, is a French master glassmaker of Art Deco, the pupil of Daum in Nancy, and creator of the glassware label Le Verre français with his brother Ernest Schneider, 1877-1937. Between 1903 and 1920, Le Verre Français was the main European art glass company, whose production was distinguished by the Nancy School. Charles Schneider was responsible for the vast majority of the works produced during this era. Past fashion, Art Nouveau glass appellations aroused renewed interest in the 1960s, first for Daum, Lalique, and Émile Gallé, and more in the 1980s with Schneider.
