"Dhokra is an ancient folk art tradition prevalent in India in the eastern states of West Bengal, Odisha, Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh. Dhokra craft objects are made through the process of non-ferrous metal casting using the lost-wax casting technique, which is one of the earliest and most advanced methods of metal casting known to human civilization. Its roots can be traced back 4500 years to the ancient city of Mohenjodaro in the Indus Valley Civilization. The name Dokra or Dhokra was used to indicate a group of craftsmen of nomadic type from the Dhokra Damar tribe, scattered over the regions of Bengal, Orisa and Madhya Pradash, whose wares were identified by their beautifully shaped and decorated metal products. Georgian Jewelry Case, English, circa 1790
Located in Incline Village, NV
This all original nicely grained mahogany, 18th century Georgian jewelry case was made in England, circa 1790. It was obviously crafted for the aristocracy, as jewelry boxes from that era are very rare. A multi-use lift out compartmentalized baize lined interior drawer, with a plethora of different sized sections accommodates various types of jewelry, from rings and pendants, to bracelets. Lifting out this drawer reveals a larger area beneath, to place necklaces, and store other valuables. This is also green baize lined. The box is in excellent condition and all original with the original finish; a gilt molding to the bottom above the four bracket feet circumvents the case. The jewelry case is very well made, quite heavy in stature; has three hinges to the back, and the original brass keyhole escutcheon to the front. A beaded molding to the base of the lid, and an additional inlaid molding to the top completes the decoration. Dimensions: 17" wide x 13" deep x 6 1/2" high Provenance: Richard Gould Antiques...
