Three Queen Victoria Silver Jubilee Gilded Boxed Medallions

About the Item

A charming set of three boxed coin shaped medallions celebrating the silver jubilee of Queen Victoria in 1887. The medallions of rounded shape are each contained in a turned boxwood case with screw down covers. Each has a gilded finish, age tarnished in places, with a relief molded side profile head of Queen Victoria to one side reading IN COMMEMORATIONOF THE JUBILEE REIGN OF H.M.G.M. QUEEN VICTORIA 1837-1887. The reverse side is relief molded with various crests of the empire including CAPE COLONY, CANADA, AUSTRALIA, NEW ZEALAND & BRITAIN and includes the following: VICTORIA E.1. BORN MAY 24 1819; ASCENDED JUNE 20 37; CROWNED JUNE 28 38; MARRIED FEB 10 40; JUBILEE 1887. Each box contains and original printed paper label for W.GABRIEL EATCH MAKER & JEWELLER in Bishopsgate, London and were obviously presented as gifts to three young children with clear written inscriptions to two of the three boxes. The medallions are offered in good condition with a small drying split to the base of one of the boxes which certainly does not detract. Provenance: From a wonderful and choice collection of small cabinet pieces many of which we are currently offering on 1stdibs. Acquired in the UK Art Market.
