Antique Judaica Bronze Passover Seder Plate Vienna Art Deco 1890 Koloman Moser

About the Item

It is an absolutely outstanding with very rare and original design Seder Plate, hand-crafted out of Bronze by famous art deco maker Koloman (Kolo) Moser who was one of the founders of Vienna Workshop (Wiener Werkstätte), Vienna, Austria. The painter, designer and maker Koloman Moser (1868–1918) was educated at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts is famed as a multi-talented designer of objects of daily use. His avant-garde self-conception was shaped at a time when Vienna as the capital of the monarchy was grasped by entrepreneurial zeal and experienced a surge of innovation. Moser’s work is remarkable for its strict reduction to geometric shapes and its sophisticated inflection and variation of individual elements, frequently resulting in distinct and memorable graphic solutions created through shifting, overlapping and a lyrical interplay of proportions. Moser thus set new standards in graphic design. Very often in his designs one can find roses involved in graphic or painted way which was one of his trade marks. Passover is a deeply meaningful holiday in the Jewish calendar, commemorating the liberation of the Israelites from Egyptian slavery. The Passover Seder plate is a special plate containing symbolic foods eaten or displayed at the Passover Seder. This kind of plates is usually used to show all the symbolic traditional foods which are used for the Passover Seder. The diameter of this unique Plate is 54 cm in open condition and 34 cm in closed condition. The Plate is heavy and weights 5.1 kg. This Seder Plate is unique and rare surviver of the WW2. A true piece or art and history, great family heirloom and an amazing addition to the Jewish Passover Celebration.
