Large Antique Soild Oak Sculpture of Saint John the Baptist w. Lamb of God 1850
Located in Lisse, NL
Unique hand carved church statue of Jewish prophet, John the Baptist, circa 1850. When you think of the life of Saint John the Baptist (or Baptiste as it is spelled here) then you can only come to the conclusion that in fact he was one of the most important human beings in the history of the world in general and of Christianity in particular. Saint John is sometimes depicted with a lamb to symbolise his recognition of Jesus as the Son of God. When John baptised Jesus in the River Jordan he said 'Behold, the Lamb of God'. In this case the sculptor chose to portray a standing lamb which is a rare feature and this antique was obviously carved in the Baroque Style. This Style is less detailed (or some would say 'more naive') than for example the Renaissance Style, but there are many collectors who love and collect this Style. Also, because it was most used in antique churches all over Europe and this Style also is most used in antique religious paintings of the old masters. Just like with 17th century Baroque Saint...

Antique and Quality Hand Carved Solid Oak Gothic Church Wall Bracket or Shelf
Located in Lisse, NL
Great looking and deeply carved Gothic Revival bracket for displaying a Saint statue. This Gothic console for wall mounting dates from the late 1800s and it has a marvelous combination of floral Gothic elements that make it a joy to own, to use and to look at. All handcrafted more than 100 years ago and always well taken care of, this Gothic Revival wall bracket has the most wonderful shape and a striking patina. This organic design with its natural, flowing lines of the deeply carved Gothic leaves also give it an almost circular look and feel. This rare church relic was once connected to a church column where it would undoubtedly have been the base for a marvelous Saint statue. If you look closely at the image of the backside, you will be able to see that the rounded part has been professionally flattened out so that it now can be used against a (flat) wall. Apart from a few minor imperfections this Gothic antique of approximately one hundred and fifty years old could not be in better condition. Thanks to the thick wooden opening in the back, mounting this antique bracket...

Antique 3ft French Patinated Walnut Corpus Christi Altar Cross 19th Century
Located in London, GB
This is a large fine antique French patinated walnut Corpus Christi altar cross, circa 1860 in date. The details are very impressive, the Corpus Christi is very finely carved and life-like, wearing a flowing linen cloth, his eyes closed and head down cast. The walnut cross features boxwood inlaid decoration and decorative carved ends with a scull and bones in high relief. The craftsmanship is second to none throughout all aspects of this magnificent Corpus Christi which is sure to add an unparalleled touch of sacred art to your home. Condition: In goodcondition. As an antique item, the cross shows signs of use with minor losses commensurate with age, these minor condition issues are mentioned for accuracy and, as seen in the accompanying photographs, it displays beautifully. Dimensions in cm: Height 92 cm x Width 39 cm x Depth 10 cm Dimensions in inches: Height 3 foot x Width 1 foot, 3 inches x Depth 4 inches The Christian cross, seen as a representation of the instrument of the crucifixion of Jesus, is the best-known symbol of Christianity. It is related to the crucifix (a cross that includes a corpus, usually a three-dimensional representation of Jesus' body) and to the more general family of cross symbols, the term cross itself being detached from the original specifically Christian meaning in modern English (as in many other western languages). The basic forms of the cross are the Latin cross with unequal arms (✝ } and the Greek cross (✚) with equal arms, besides numerous variants, partly with confessional significance, such as the tau cross...

Large Hand Carved Antique Sculpture of Apparition of Jesus to St. Margaret Mary
Located in Lisse, NL
One of a kind, large and marvelous work of religious art. With thanks to one of our honorable Frater clients we have learned that this unique and marvelously hand carved wall sculpture is a carving depicting the famous apparition of Jesus to the 17th century French Visitation nun, Saint Margaret Mary Alocoque. This probably is the scene in which He asks her to establish devotion to His Sacred Heart. We have never seen a sculpture of this subject matter and for us to have found one of this large size and of such quality more than made our day. Hand carved out of solid oak, both the details and the depth of this antique wall sculpture...

Antique Gothic Revival Hand Carved Oak Wall Cabinet with Green Cathedral Glass
Located in Lisse, NL
Unique and striking Gothic Revival wall cabinet with perfect working lock and key. This handcrafted and probably unique Gothic Revival wall cabinet from the late 1800s is another one of our magnificent recent finds. The size, the quality in the large amount of hand-carved Gothic details, the patina and the excellent condition make this another perfect purchase for collectors of this ancient and highly decorative style. The overal design, including the Gothic church window in the door, is right up there with the best we have seen to date. However, what makes this Gothic work of beauty really stand out for us, is the combination of the patina of the light tiger oak and the perfect condition, green cathedral glass panel in the door. That combination truly is a joy to look at. The door, by the way, still opens and shuts tight perfectly and it comes with a perfect working lock and key. Have you also noticed the original, gilt bronze lock plate? That is a work of art in its own right. The clean inside of this cabinet comes with two removable, solid oak shelves and the inside of the door is veneered with a wonderful bird's eye maple. On the back of this unique and antique Gothic cabinet...
