Antique Mary & Jesus Bronze Wall Plaque by Susse Freres for Adolphe Itasse 1880s

About the Item

Stunning and meaningful work of art, MATER DEI. This stunning and truly excellent condition 'Mother of God' bronze wall plaque by Adolphe Itasse (1829-1893) displays the best qualities that 19th century, European religious art has to offer. First of all, the details and the positive loving energy that radiates from this Mother and child sculpture are simply the best and this clearly is the work of a master sculptor. Secondly, the perfection of both the casting and the patina is the reason why Itasse and some of his master sculptor contemporaries would turn to Parisian Susse Freres as (one of) their favourite foundries to work with. What we also love about this rare bronze wall plaque is the loving and carefree nature and the positivity that it radiates. Mary is clearly holding the love of Her life and baby Jesus could not look more happy and we also love the way His little hand is holding onto Mary's clothes. To us, it makes this antique work of religious art a pleasant contrast to many of the artistic impressions that have to do with suffering only (although we ofcourse do understand and appreciate the importance and deeper meaning of those works also). This bronze plaque is cast in deep relief (we have tried to show you better by taking some photos from the side) and both Mary and Jesus almost seem to be coming out of this plaque which makes it even more impressive and vivid. Thanks to the original and equally perfect condition bronze ring on the back, safely mounting this superb antique plaque tight to your wall will take no more than a few minutes. If you like this wonderful antique bronze as much as we do then you will love our price. Especially when taken into account that perfect packing and worldwide delivery from our store to your door in just 4 to 6 days are complimentary. Height x width x depth: 16 x 10.1 x 2.6 inches. Weight: 7 kilogram or 15.5 pounds lbs. We have a passion for the unique, for quality, for stylish and meaningful and for true craftsmanship of years gone by. Your purchases will be extremely well packaged and we look forward to serving you (again).

  • Rare Set of Christian Art Deco Bronze Jesus, Mary & Angel Wall Plaques by Norga
    Located in Lisse, NL
Rare set of three, good size and mint condition works of religious art. This group of three bronze works of art (deco) all depict biblical scenes and they can be placed and worshipped in all kinds of settings. Meaningful and perfectly handcrafted works of religious art like these were mostly used in monasteries, private homes, but also on the more expensive cemeteries. The one on the left depicts Mother Mary and John the Baptist as they mourn over the body of Christ right after He was taken from the cross. The bronze plaque in the middle, we believe, depicts the third station where Jesus falls for the first time. The third bronze depicts a beautiful Arch Angel kneeling...
