About the Item

Entirely original, all hand-crafted antique Holy Heart sculpture of Christ on a zinc base. Over 3.5 feet tall. If finding an antique church sculpture of Christ was not special enough, we found one with the most amazing details and one that is completely original and intact. The overal 'design' of this antique sculpture is extraordinary and sereen at the same time, but what makes this particular specimen extra special (to us) are the warm and all hand-painted colors and the gilt base. Over the many decades these amazing colors have only grown warmer, 'richer' and thus more pretty. The perfectly realistic posture, the facial features, the marvelous colors and shape of His robe and all the other details of this Jesus statue too are second to none. It would be great if He were to again grace a church altar or the wall of a monastery (on a wall bracket), but we could also understand how a private (and devout) collector would love to own and cherish this former church relic. On the back of the gilt base it reads GLV and the Dutch words for 'reproduction forbidden'. The creator clearly did not want others to copy or steal this divine church sculpture. Even the detachable right hand and brass halo are still there and in mint condition. Apart from a few minor imperfections to the plaster and some fading on the shoulder area on the right side this rare find could hardly be in better condition. Thanks to the perfect diameter of the zinc base this almost 40 pounds weighing sculpture stands as strong and stable as the day it was hand-crafted well over a century ago.
