A Brass Mezuzah Case made by Hans Teppich in Jerusalem Circa 1950. Hans Teppich was born in Germany in 1904. After finishing High-School in Berlin he studied art in evening classes and then continued studying for ten more years in morning classes in the “Kunstgewerbe und Handwerkerschule” in Berlin. He acquired a broad range of art education, including drawing, sculpture, metalwork, bronze casting, metal turning, and interior design. A Modern Mezuzah Case made by Chava Wolpert Richard in New York Circa 1970. Chava Wolpert Richard was an artist who dedicated her career to the creation of Jewish ceremonial art. Growing up in the shadow of her father, Ludwig Yehuda Wolpert — one of the most influential innovators of modern Judaica of the twentieth century — she soon carved out her own career and came to be recognized as an artist in her own right. Richard brought several innovative practices to the art of Judaica. For example, her mezuzah cases of the early 1960s were made of aluminum coated with phenolic. This Mezuzah case is one of the classic examples of the modernistic designs. Reverse and rounded sides are made of aluminum and the front center is coated with phenolic.
