About the Item

Hand-Carved Wooden Relief "Last Supper" (circa 1950) Description: This exquisite hand-carved wooden relief depicts the Last Supper and dates back to the mid-20th century, around 1950. Likely of Italian or French origin, it showcases a charming folk-art style with vibrant colors and expressive details. The piece measures approximately 42.9 inches wide, 22 inches high, and 2.8 inches deep (109 cm x 56 cm x 7 cm). At the center stands Jesus Christ, slightly larger and more prominent, holding a golden chalice. He is flanked by the twelve apostles, each uniquely carved with distinct facial expressions and postures. The apostles are depicted holding books or gesturing thoughtfully, capturing a range of emotions from solemnity to contemplation. The figures are meticulously painted in vivid hues of red, green, blue, and earth tones, giving each character a lifelike presence. The decorative chains attached to some figures are original and add a unique, ornamental touch to the piece.
