Hand-carved wooden wall relief of a sheep.
Carved of oak, the Lamb shown standing on the Book of Revelation which is born aloft on a bank of clouds and surrounded by a burst of rays.
Date; c. Possibly around 1800.
This wood carving is the work of a very skilled and inventive artist. The piece bears witness to his exceptional talent. The realism of the scene is emphasised by the amount of details depicted. The refinement of the carving itself is highlighted by the well beautiful patine.
