About the Item

One of the coolest vintage bicycles in original condition, this "JC HIGGINS MEN'S JEWEL TANK SPRINGER FORK COLOR FLOW" beach cruiser was the top of the line in the 1950 Fall/Winter Sears catalogue and sold for $53.45 at that time. Features include an original design men's frame, frame mounted tank with jewels and horn button, front "Beehive" springer fork, JC Higgins head and side plate, deluxe chainguard, cruiser style seat, wide cruiser handlebars, hand grips, full fenders, skiptooth chain and sprockets, and "jeweled" rear carrier rack. The streamlining gives the appearance of motion, with four exhaust rings on the tank just like those in big 1950s cars (there was a cheaper model with three rings.) The massive tank with chrome-plated drop makes the bike look bigger. In addition, the luggage carrier has a sleek jet tube design with two small jet tubes on the end to hold red safety reflectors. Heavy duty deep crescent fenders. Frame has curved lower bar for additional streamlining. To top it off there is a seal on the fender that reads Registered with Pinkertons National Detective Agency Chicago. It was a exclusive registry that aided in the recovery if your bike was lost or stolen. They did not sell many of these bicycles when they were new, consequently they were rare back then and next to impossible to find today.

Wear consistent with age and use. Minor losses. In original condition w/some scratches and scapes. A couple of small dents in front fender* see last image. Two 26 inch flat tires. Horn needs a battery. The Pinkerton badge has some loss. No headlamp. A great project if you wanted to fully restore.
