Mint Condition Heavy Bronze Boxer / Price Fighter Sculpture by Jef Lambeaux
Located in Lisse, NL
Powerful bronze sculpture of an athletic and ripped fighter. This sizable and heavy work of art is as beautiful as the day it was handcrafted. Belgian sculptor Jef Lambeaux (1852-1908) had a penchant for capturing the human physique in motion, with sports and erotic scenes as his favourite subject matters. Since he grew up in the second half of the 19th century, he may very well have seen actual price fighters going at each other in boxing matches. This powerful bronze male boxer in full action is just about to launch an inside right whilst protecting his own head with his left arm and right shoulder. His square jaw line and rugged facial features give us the impression that he is as hard they come. The incredibly well developed muscles in his back and legs confirm that notion as well. The stunning patina accentuates the muscular physique of this bronze fighter and he looks marvelous from all angles. Image 13 shows an interesting detail that you don't find in many bronzes. Here you can see that samples were taken from the bottom of the base to determine whether this bronze had the right composition and strength. It clearly passed the test, because otherwise it would have been destroyed. This sizable and heavy bronze fighter with its perfectly captured fighting posture makes a great statement piece on a desk or side table. Our price for this rare and mint bronze boxer...

In 1859 he joined Joseph Zambra (1822-1897), a manufacturer of scientific instruments, and they established the Negretti & Zambra Ltd, with numerous branches in London, and soon they had a good reputation both at home and abroad because of the excellence of their products. In the early years of the company, they limited production to meteorological instruments, or, as they defined them, "philosophical instruments". About in 1857 Negretti & Zambra were commissioned by the British government to investigate about the temperature of the sea along the coasts, to clarify which influence the temperature had on migration and habits of fishes and which were the seasons and temperatures more suitable for fishing. For these investigations, the Negretti & Zambra realized for the Admiral Fitzroy...

Antique James Braid Golf Club, Blade Putter
Located in Oxfordshire, GB
James Braid Goose Neck Blade Putter By William Gibson. Hickory golf club putter by William Gibson, Fife, endorsed by five times Open Champion, James Braid. The club carries the James Braid endorsement autograph and the 'Out Line Star' cleek mark of Gibson with the words 'Goose Neck Putter, Warranted Hand Forged'. It has the retail stamp of John Jaques & Son Ltd., London (better known for their croquet sets). The club with hickory shaft and a polished leather grip, club face with hyphen, dash markings. The measurements shown are the length of the shaft with hosel and the width and depth of the face. Gibson's 'OUTLINE STAR' cleek mark was registered in 1906, although it had been used since Gibson began his business in the 1890's and was replaced with the 'DEEP STRUCK STAR' in the 1930's. William Gibson was born in Kirkcaldy in 1868 and originally worked as a blacksmith. He apprenticed with James Anderson, Anstruther, during the late 1880's and by 1897 was part of the small firm of Stirling and Gibson based in Edinburgh. Upon his partners death in 1899 the firm's name changed to William Gibson & Co, moving to Kinghorn, Fife, in 1903. Initially he kept to only producing cleeks but by 1905 he had launched into full club making production, both irons and woods, with the clubs sporting the famous 'star' cleek mark. In 1906 Gibson started to produce what would become one of his most popular clubs and largest sellers the 'Genii' model. The clubs were revolutionary and were patented by Hugh Logan, with their offset head and goose neck hosel, they could be customised to suit most players requirements. Gibson's other successful line was the easily recognisable 'Star Maxwell' irons with their drilled hosels and flanged soles based on the patented design by Robert Maxwell. The business kept expanding and Gibson was acknowledged as one of the world's largest producer of golf clubs. His huge success was due to him being very open minded regarding club production and new designs, leading him to produce several economy brands as well as his top brands. He died in 1921 leaving his son George to continue running the business, though eventually going into voluntary liquidation on 1st July 1955. Dimensions: Height 88 cm / 34 3⁄4" Width 10 cm / 4" Depth 3.5 cm / 1 " Period 1900-1949 Year C. 1920 Medium Hickory Country Scotland Signed James Braid Condition Good usable hickory putter.
