About the Item

“Star Bolt - For Fanciful Flights of Daring” is emblazzoned on the front of this 6’ surfboard. The shape, the size, the color and the graphics all contribute to the vision we have of this baby flying across the water - even as we see it hanging on our wall. The shape is designed for speed and manuverability on the waves. The colors and graphics are designed for impact. Vibrant light yellow at the center gradually shifts into shades of deeper yellow and orange with airbrushed prowess. Punctuating red creates both depth and impact as it is used on the energetic logo and pinstiping. We love that the only two locations of bright sky blue are Rory Russell’s signature, “Lightning Bolt Hawaii” written below it and the pointed nose protector of the board. And how about that Lightning Bolt design along the rails! The creamy white was created by a clear coat allowing the true underlying board to slow through - the orange-red narrow bolts with red pinstriping is pure artistry. During the 1970s lightning bolt, owned by Gerry Lopez was based on the North Shore of Oahu Hawaii and was recognized as the powerhouse of surfboard design and production. Gerry Lopez was the unquestionable master of the most challenging surf break around, known as Pipeline. Every major surfer of that time aspired to ride for the lightning bolt team. It is a testament to surfer Rory Russell, one of the lightning bolt team riders, that he was recognized with the bestowment of his own lightning bolt signature model "The Star Bolt", a feet that only Bobby Owens had accomplished. During the 1970s Russell was the most prolific winner of the Pipeline Master Surf Competition. He acquired one third, three second and two first place wins; an achievement not yet replicated. This board comes with a detachable fin.

Wear consistent with age and use. Overall good condition. No open wounds. Pressure dings, several ding repairs and some scratches to board bottom. Deck displays very well.
