Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig Authentic Signature Collage

About the Item

Celebrating two of America’s most famous baseball players, this collage features authentic signatures by Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig. Both signatures are presented with photographs of the influential athletes and framed according to the highest archival standards. George Herman Ruth, nicknamed “Babe” Ruth, was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1936. He is considered one of the greatest hitters in the sport’s history. A young talent, Ruth was immediately recruited out of high school to the Baltimore Orioles. He joined the big leagues with the Red Sox as a lefty hurler only to be sold shortly afterwards to the Yankees in 1920 as an outfielder. Ruth led the Yankees team to win seven American League Pennants and four World Series Titles. The famous batter retired from the sport in 1935 with an incredible 714 home runs. An entertainer as much as an athlete, Babe Ruth was known for his big personality and charismatic showmanship. Much of his fame is attributed to his character as well as his admirable skill in the sport. Henry Louis Gehrig, known as Lou Gehrig, was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1939. Primarily playing on 1st base, Gehrig remained on the Yankees for his entire career. Assigned number 4, Gehrig batted just after Babe Ruth and although Gehrig was an exceptional hitter, he was often out-shined by his teammate. His reserved, quiet nature was a Stark contrast to Ruth’s flamboyant and charismatic presence. Nevertheless, throughout his career, Gehrig scored over 100 runs as well as brought home over 100 runs for 13 straight seasons. On May 2, 1939 the sensational athlete removed himself from the line-up after a difficult start caused by amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) that would later come to be known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease. He died only two years later, but left his mark on the American sport for generations to come. Condition: Overall very good condition. Babe Ruth’s signature shown here is written clearly in dark ink. One small water stain affects a portion of the “B” in “Babe” but does not inhibit the legibility. The same card is toned from age as well, but has no tears or creases. Lou Gehrig’s signature is clear and dark with no apparent damage. The card is only slightly toned and has no tears, creases, or loss. All of the newly printed photographs are in fine condition as well as the Yankees patch. All elements are framed together according to archival standards with UV protective glass and acid-free matting.

Offered is a unique collage featuring signatures from some of the greatest captains in history: Claire Chennault, Henry “Hap” Arnold, Hoyt Vandenberg, Carl “Tooey” Spaatz, William “Billy” Mitchell and Edward “Eddie” Rickenbacker. These men are some of the most influential figures in U.S. Air Force history. Each captain was involved in WWI and/or WWII, some were aces who proved the usability and effectiveness of airpower, and others were brilliant leaders who paved the way for U.S. victories and the development of the U.S. Air Force. This framed collage includes original signatures on cards, a letter, and a photo.
